An environment built around the application

Infrastructure planning starts with workload, data and acceptable downtime. The answer may be public cloud, a dedicated server or a Proxmox environment. Maintenance skills, costs and dependencies also matter. A complex cluster is not necessary simply because it can be built.

Networking and access belong in the design

Alongside servers, we plan network separation, firewall rules, VPN connectivity and administrative access. Linux configuration and repeatable deployment steps are documented. Application connections are separated from maintenance privileges so one service does not require opening the whole environment.

Backups alone do not solve recovery

Before production use, agree what is backed up, how often and where restoration happens. Monitoring needs alert thresholds and an owner. Updates and migrations need a maintenance window and a way back to the previous state. Recovery targets and any service levels are agreed separately.

Improve without replacing everything

Work can start with an environment review and a focused improvement: VPN access, backups or migrating one application. Estimation needs a server inventory, dependencies and downtime constraints. Server and licence costs are separated from implementation work.

Includes

  • Public cloud (AWS, GCP, Hetzner, DigitalOcean)
  • Proxmox VE clusters with HA and live migration
  • Secure networking (WireGuard, VXLAN, VPN)
  • Bare metal servers and dedicated hardware
  • Firewalls, segmentation, and security groups

What to bring to the first discussion

  • Where do applications run today and who maintains the environment?
  • How much downtime or data loss can the business tolerate?
  • Do you have a network diagram, server inventory and recovery instructions?
